Assumptions and values influence research on agricultural sustainability

seminarier, workshops |

Welcome to a new inspirational lunch webinar about interdisciplinarity! This webinar welcomes Helena Röcklingsberg and Riccardo Bommarco, two former participants of the Interdisciplinarity Academy at SLU, who will talk about their eight month work together with three other researchers within the Academy, leading up to an article published in Nature Sustainability on how Assumptions and values influence research on agricultural sustainability.

Two major scientific fields that are researching sustainability in agriculture, agroecology and sustainable intensification, have produced extensive research bases. However, they rarely acknowledge the limitations of their approaches or engage with each other. This lack of reflection and dialogue might hamper progress in sustainable agriculture research.

This is the focus of an article published by a group of five SLU researchers in Nature Sustainability: Progress towards sustainable agriculture hampered by siloed scientific discourses.

In this lunch webinar, Helena Röcklingsberg, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Applied Animal Science and Welfare, and Riccardo Bommarco, Professor at the Department of Ecology, will present the analysis and share their experiences of interdisciplinary work.

An output of the Interdisciplinary Academy (IDA) at SLU

The five authors of the article, Klara Fischer, Giulia Vico, Helena Röcklinsberg, Hans Liljenström and Riccardo Bommarco, together formed one of the two  groups of the Interdisciplinary Academy (IDA) at SLU 2022-2023.

Interdisciplinary Academy (IDA) at SLU was established in 2022 by the NJ Faculty and SLU Future Food to create a long-term structure for developing multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research at SLU. Inspired by the Pufendorf Institute at Lund University and with experiences from the Future Lab at SLU, IDA aims to enhance interest in interdisciplinary research at SLU, strengthen the ability to approach research questions from multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives, and facilitate collaborations between SLU’s various departments within the scope of multi- and interdisciplinary initiatives.
