Marie Rhodin
Jag arbetar som forskare, klinikveterinär och lärare med särskilt ansvar för samverkan inom häst. Mitt huvudintresse är ortopedi och klinisk biomekanik på häst. Det innebär att jag studerar ortopediska sjukdomar samt rörelsemönster och belastningar hos hästar som rids och tränas eller som har blivit halta. Jag har även överfört en del av den kunskap vi har på häst och gjort studier på hundar för att förstå hur rörelsemönstret förändras när de blir halta.

Presentation

Vi har idag kunskap samt teknik för att mäta symmetrin i hästars rörelsemönster och när en häst blir halt får den ett asymmetriskt rörelsemönster. Förmågan att mäta hältor på ett enkelt sätt gör att vi nu har en fantastisk möjlighet att bedriva ortopedisk forskning och börja besvara många av de frågor som rör hästens hälsa. Hur är asymmetri och smärta kopplat till varandra? Kan en häst röra sig asymmetriskt utan att ha ont? Kan asymmetrier vara medfödda eller uppstår de i samband med träning?

Undervisning

Jag undervisar veterinärstudenter i anatomi och den kliniska delen av hästundervisningen och är handledare för veterinära examensarbeten. Jag undervisar även andra studenter vid SLU inom anatomi, ortopedi och biomekanik.

  • Hur påverkas symmetrin i den friska respektive halta hästens rörelsemönster när den rör sig på ett böjt spår?
  • Rörelseasymmetrier i den svenska ridhästpopulationen – biologisk variation eller hälta?

Samverkan

Jag har ett särskilt samverkansuppdrag inom häst i min tjänst.

Jag och min forskargrupp har ett stort akademiskt nätverk med samarbetspartners i USA, Holland, England, Schweiz, Tyskland, Norge, Island, Australien och Colombia. Förutom det internationella akademiska nätverket har vi även ett nationellt nätverk av hästintressenter som inkluderar Stiftelsen för den Beridna högvakten, Strömsholm, Wången samt Menhammar Stuteri.
