Overview of biosafety regulations to support the future regulatory status of precision breeding in some non-EU countries

seminarier, workshops |

André Rosado, Aberystwyth University

Short text about the topic of the seminar:

Precision breeding represents a new challenge for biosafety regulators when applying the legal definition of Living Modified Organisms (LMOs) in accordance with their domestic biosafety legislation. Globally, there is uncertainty whether products derived from precision breeding will be equally considered as LMOs and subject to regulatory oversight. This study provides an overview of the biosafety regulations of LMOs in 27 Countries neighboring the European Union. This will serve as a baseline contributing to further discussions about the potential future regulatory status of precision breeding in the targeting countries.
