It is time for BT's second AI seminar. Rachel Forsyth from Lund University will give a 1-hour lecture and then a 30-minutes discussion and Q&A session.
Generative AI has made it remarkably easy to produce plausible essays, reports, analyses, images and answers to questions. Perhaps this creates immediate practicalproblems, but it also gives us an opportunity to step back and ask some familiar educational questions: What do we actually want students to learn? How do we know that they have learned it? And where, if anywhere, should GenAI fit into that process?
This session will consider GenAI as a more familiar challenge for teaching and educational design rather than a technological or academic-integrity problem. We will look at the different roles GenAI might play in students' learning, including situations where its use may be valuable, where it may undermine the learning we want to happen, and how students can demonstrate the knowledge, skills and judgement expected of them. A talk with reference to open access resources provided at Lund University.
Rachel Forsyth is Senior Educational Developer at Lund University, Sweden. Her work and research focus onassessment, inclusive learning communities, trust between teachers and students, and the pedagogical implications of generative AI.
