Welcome to a one-hour breakfast meeting with SLU's global network! Are you using samples (animal, plants, seed etcetera) or traditional knowledge from another country in your research? - Then you need to consider the Access and benefit-sharing (ABS) principle and the Nagoya protocol, depending on what rules apply in the country where the resources are located.
Meet Sebastian Bromander, Lawyer in the SLU Nagoya working group, and get hands-on information on how to act in different situations.
We will also discuss a tentative dilemma that can arise in a research situation.
The ABS principle is defined in both the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Nagoya Protocol. It aims to create incentives for the protection and sustainable use of biological diversity, and to ensure a reasonable and fair distribution of the benefits that arise from the use of genetic resources and traditional knowledge.
SLU Nagoya working group provide advice and support to SLU's researchers on these matters.
To get an invitation with a zoom link to the meeting, please join SLU's internal global network. More information and registration here.
