Renewable energy and conservation: conflicts or synergy?

En poster av symposiet 14-15 april 2021

The research schools Ecology & Society (ECOS), Ecology – basics and application & Sustainable Biomass Systems will jointly organise an online symposium on the interface between renewable energy and conservation on the afternoons of 14 and 15 April 2021.

We need to move towards more sustainable energy sources to combat the global climate crisis. However, some renewable energy solutions might be in conflict with that other large global crisis: the biodiversity crisis. What are the potential conflicts between renewable energy and biodiversity conservation? And can we find solutions to tackle these conflicts?

The aim of this symposium is to bring doctoral students and researchers from different disciplines together to be informed and discuss issues related to the energy transition, and the global climate and biodiversity crises from different disciplinary perspectives. Speakers from a broad range of disciplines will present their views in an open webinar, after which there will be the possibility for discussion with the speakers in smaller break-out rooms, specifically aimed at giving doctoral students (and others) the opportunity to meet and discuss with the speakers.

The webinar is open to everyone. The discussion is aimed at doctoral students but others that are interested in discussing with the speakers are welcome to register. We will prioritize doctoral students in case we have to decide that we cannot accommodate all interested. Please find attached the full program.

The symposium will be completely online.
