My research focuses on the exploration and characterization of acetogenic bacteria from biogas reactor environments. These microorganisms are investigated for their ability to convert hydrogen, produced from surplus solar/wind-based renewable electricity, into acetate. The acetate serves as an intermediate form of hydrogen storage, which can later be fed to the biogas reactors to generate electricity on demand. Hence, acetate act as a link between biogas and solar/wind energy. I am currently working on the following projects:
1. Enrichment, characterization, and isolation of homoacetogens from biogas reactors.
2. Determination of growth kinetics and acetate production capabilities of the homoacetogenic isolates.
3. Construction and operation of trickle-bed reactors (TBRs) for the continuous production of acetate from H₂/CO₂.

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Pakistan. Following that, I pursued an Erasmus Mundus International Master's in Environmental Technology and Engineering (IMETE), studying at the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague, Ghent University in Belgium, and the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education. After the exciting but turbulent journey of moving across countries during my Master's, I finally settled in Uppsala in December 2023 to begin my doctoral studies.
