Picture of a name sign in a SLU video

As video is used more often on websites and on social media, it is important that SLU is clearly and consistently listed as the sender of videos produced for the university.

Here you'll find templates for different kinds of video objects, and instructions on how to use them. Using this material consistently throughout all of our productions, we create recognition and maintain a uniform visual identity for the university.

Intro/outro with logo and brand promise

For the intro/outro picture there are three background alternatives to choose from: the SLU image collage, the green leaf structure or the blue water.
These zip files contain the background picture with and without logo and brand promise. The latter can be used if you need an ending message in your video.

The intro/outro on the SLU image collage, 1080x1920 pixels is adapted for videos used in Facebook or Instagrams stories. The version without logo and brand promise can be used for a final message written in one of the SLU sans serif typefaces, Akzidenz or Arial.

Animated intro/outro with logo and brand promise

Phosworks and SLU created an animation of the SLU image collage with the logo and brand promise to use in high quality video productions. Do you want to use it in your video? Make a request to the picture editor at the Division of Communication! Please note that the picture editor will assess the suitability of using the animation in your particular video.

The animated intro/outro is shown in the beginning of this video.

The SLU logotype in the upper right corner

The SLU logotype should be used consistently throughout all of our videos, as a watermark. As a general rule the white logo should be used, with 20% opacity, but you may need to adjust the opacity if the logo is hard to see. In some cases you may even need to use a black logo and adjust the opacity to your video material.

  • Use the logo version in white or black.
  • The logo should be used with about 20% opacity. (Depending on the video content you may need to adjust the opacity to make sure that the logo is visible.)
  • The logo should be placed in the upper right corner of the video frame.
  • Make sure the logo has the proper amount of free space around it.

Please note that the logo in the upper right corner should not be used on the intro/outros above since they already contain the SLU logo.

Message on a semitransparent background plate in one of the SLU colours

  • Use one of the SLU sans serif typefaces, Akzidenz or Arial for your message.
  • If you make the background plate semi-transparent, instead of opaque, the text content and the plate blends better with the video and the video is less obscured since it can be dimly seen through the plate.
  • Avoid making the background plate too transparent since this impairs the readability of the text and makes the colour of the plate gloomy and watered down.
  • Keep in mind the accessibility when you choose which colours to use for your messages and background so that you maintain good readability. The SLU colour palette shows the most suitable text colour for each hue in the palette.

Even though messages on brightly coloured background plates may look pretty, keep in mind that messages of this kind cannot be read out by any accessibility tool. To meet the requirements that The Act on the Accessibility of Digital Public Services place on us as a public authority we need to also place these messages, and subtitles if the video contains speech, in separate SRT files. You also need to make sure that the core message of the video can reach your target group in more ways than just this video.

To avoid keeping the viewer on hold for to long, instead of starting the video off with a static title that fills the screen, place the title in the upper left corner of the video. This way the video can start and hopefully maintain the viewer's interest. The name plate is left aligned and sticks to the edge of the video frame.

Name tag

The name tag has two sections, the first row for the name, written out in capital letters on a background in black, dark grey or light grey, and the second row where you can put the title or the name of an organisation.

Keep in mind:

  • Place the name tag so it sticks to the left edge of the video frame.
  • Leave some space below it for captions in two rows.
  • Use the SLU typeface Akzidenz or Arial for the name and title/organization name.

The picture shows a video using the nametag template. The name tag is placed along the left border of the video frame, above the captions. The template is a Photoshop document (.psd) and you enter the name and the title in the corresponding layers in Photoshop. The font is Akzidenz-Grotesk but you can also use Arial. There are three background colours to choose from: black, dark grey or light grey. If you choose the light grey colour, write the name in black.

Final message or web adress (URL)

You probably want to end your video with a final message or a link to some more information about your subject. Keep in mind that the link has to be easy to remember since it will not be clicable. The template is a Photoshop document (.psd) and you write your message in the corresponding layer in Photoshop. The font is Akzidenz-Grotesk but you can also use Arial.

Illustrations

SLU's illustrations can help enhance the message in your video. You can use them as still objects or hire one of our communication suppliers to animate them. For examples of animated illustrations, see the video SLU is you

The iPhone application Clipsk

If you use an iPhone you can use the application Clipsk for basic video editing and add simple text messages in Akzidenz on coloured background plates in one of the SLU profile colours. When using Clipsk you also have access to the standard video graphics components shown above.

Clipsk lets you export your video in a 1:1 or 16:9 format and also create subtitles for your videos manually and export them as a separate SRT file.

The annual cost for Clipsk is debiteras by the division of communication. Contact Picture Editor Jenny Svennås-Gillner if you are interested in using Clipsk!
