Contact media before the defence of your thesis
Would you like to inform media about your thesis? Do you want to use SLU’s web to spread the news? The Communications Office can help you.
For the press release, send us a popularly written summary, about 2 000 positions, preferably not later than a fortnight before the defence of your thesis. Focus on results and conclusions; if possible describe how the results can be applied in practice. Try to keep your readers, i.e. journalists from various media, in mind when choosing vocabulary and text level.
Please note that the press release will be written in Swedish and will be distributed to Swedish media. If writing in Swedish is difficult for you, you can write in English and we will translate it for you.
We edit your text to make it easy for the intended target group to understand. We might need to contact you to ask some additional questions. You will have the possibility to read and approve the text before it is distributed to media. We also recommend you to show the press release to your supervisor before we send it to the press.
The press release will also be published on the Swedish SLU web at our Press room and at Defence of doctoral and licentiate dissertations. There you will also find a link to your abstract, that you will already have listed in the SLU Library database Epsilon.
Photos of yourself and/or from your field of research will make your presentation more interesting to publish. The photos should be high resolution pictures, in jpg-format. Remember to name the photographer. All photos must be free to publish in articles about your dissertation, in press and on the web, and you must clear this with the photographer.
We need the following information when you send us your text and photos:
- The title of your thesis
- The time and place for the dissertation and the name of your opponent
- Your current title and your title after the defence of your thesis
- Phone number where we can reach you (home and office)
- Phone number to include in the press release (where the press can reach you)
- E-mail addresses to media (news papers) in your home town in Sweden
- Web link to further information (your own or your departments web site)
Send your summary, photos and the above information to:
- david.stephansson@slu.se (NB! The server can only distribute up to 10 Mb per e-mail! If we have not confirmed that we have received your material, please contact one of us editors in the right hand column.)
Journalists often use these press releases, especially if the subject is of interest to the public. However, each editor decides whether a specific topic is of interest to his or her readers. Therefore SLU’s Communications Office can never guarantee that a certain press release will be published.
Research presentations and contributions to Wikipedia
When presenting your research, please use SLU´s templates designed according to the universities graphic profile. That will spare you time, give a uniform apperance and contribute to streghten our brand.
In collaboration with Wikimedia Sweden, SLU offers a start-up project supporting researchers who want to contribute to Wikipedia. The aim is to disseminate the research and knowledge that SLU researchers possess to people outside academia. Some of the information will be specific to Sweden and Swedish-speaking people, but by contributing in other languages a worldwide readership will be provided with information in disciplines where SLU researchers have extensive knowledge.
