Here you can read about Originality and how the system works.
Inspera Originality is SLU's new tool for text matching and plagiarism control. It is used to review student submissions in Canvas and Inspera, and will replace the previous system Ouriginal (Urkund) from October 2025.
Just like Ouriginal, Inspera Originality analyzes students' texts and generates a report that you, as a teacher or examiner, use to support your own assessment.
The tool can also be used independently, for example for plagiarism control of degree theses.
The background is that the supplier of Ouriginal has been acquired and is discontinuing the service. Therefore, SLU is introducing Inspera Originality according to the following schedule:
The best way to combat plagiarism is to discuss the issue with students and give them knowledge about how to reference correctly. Many students are unsure of what plagiarism means in practice - by raising the issue in teaching, you can help them avoid mistakes.
Inspera Originality can be selected when you create an assignment in Canvas, or on an already created assignment. After review, the report from Originality will be available directly in Canvas.
You can read more about the transition to Originality in Canvas here.
Inspera Originality can be selected when you set up an exam in Inspera. The report is generated for the Essay and uploaded Word documents assignment types and is available directly in Inspera.
In the Canvas course about Inspera, you can read more about how Originality works in Inspera.
