Would you like to learn more about proximal sensing of soil? This webinar will introduce you to this technology and how it can be used. Welcome!

For whom? Soil scientists interested in proximal sensing of soil, who have little or no experience with the techniques and want to learn more.

What is proximal sensing, what sensors are used, and what soil properties can be measured? What are the strengths and weaknesses of proximal sensing of soil?

The webinar will provide a basic overview of the most common types of sensors and approaches, focusing on electrical conductivity, gamma radiation, and visible infrared spectroscopy. The webinar will also describe the methods and give examples of applications.

The webinar is organized by EJP SOIL and will be held in English.

There will be more in-depth webinars/workshops for researchers familiar with proximal sensing later in 2024.

Between 2020 and 2025, SLU is participating in the European research program EJP SOIL, which conducts research, education, capacity building, and communication for sustainable and climate-smart use of agricultural soil in Europe. SLU participates in a total of 17 research projects in the program. The Department of Soil and Environment coordinates the work nationally.
