Cat Scott will cover the contribution of trees outside woodlands to overall tree canopy cover and consider their potential contribution to the net-zero goals.

The webinar series on urban forests, arranged by SLU Urban Futures and Future Forests, continues with a presentation by Cat Scott from the University of Leeds on assessing the distribution of trees outside woodlands and their contribution to carbon sequestration.

Using the region of Yorkshire in the UK as a case study – this webinar will explore the importance of trees outside woodlands. These trees are often challenging to track, count and measure at a regional or national scale, making it more difficult to understand their contribution to carbon sequestration and other ecosystem services. This webinar will cover the contribution of trees outside woodlands to overall tree canopy cover and consider their potential contribution to the net-zero goals being set by cities, regions and countries around the world.

Dr. Cat Scott is a university academic fellow in Biosphere-Climate Interactions at the University of Leeds, UK. The overall aim of her research is to understand the extent to which land-use change can help mitigate climate change and meet the targets set in the Paris Agreement on Climate.
