Bröderna Edlunds donationsfond

Open for applications 2022-09-01 - 2022-10-01

The fund was established by the brothers Georg Wilhelm Edlund and Walter
Edlund according to a will drawn up in 1966.
The returns from the fund are to be used for research teams within SLU and are primarily allocated to foreign visiting researchers, primarily from Canada.

Grants can be awarded for research projects, but also for travel, accommodation and possible moving costs for foreign visiting researchers. The application should be submitted by the person at SLU who intends to invite visiting researchers.

Distributable amount in 2022: SEK 593,879

The application should be filled in on the Application form with an attached CV.

Stiftelsen Professor Lars Tiréns donation 1958

The application must refer to projects within the foundation's purpose: "Promotion of scientific research on the regeneration of forests in Sweden, conducted by the Faculty of Forest Sciences at SLU".

The application must contain:

  • A cover page with the Project title, name and contact details of the Principal applicant and potential co-applicants, and a Project summary,
  • A project plan with the following headings; Problem Background, Research questions /Hypotheses, Approaches and Methods, Schedule and Budget (maximum 5 A4 pages)
  • A clear description of how the application/project fits the foundation’s purpose (maximum ½ A4 page)
  • CV of the Principal applicant (2 pages)
  • Principal applicant’s list of publications for the last five years (2018-2022)

The Board of the Foundation has stated that research grants should be allocated to a specific project within the frame of the Foundation's purpose. Project support is given for a maximum of four years, corresponding to the normal study time of a PhD student. The fund's yield varies between years but normally amounts to approximately 750,000 SEK per year.

The Board may decide that grants are approved for a two-year period and that extension for a subsequent two-year period is dependent on the results from the first two years.

The deadline for application is 16 January 2023.

Faculty Awards

Decided by the faculty board 17 September 2009. Revised 2011-09-14. The Price and Award Committee will consider these awards on an annual basis.

Award for technical/administrative staff 

Given when the faculty board finds it suitable, to technical or administrative staff, for skills and engagements in their work beyond the requirements of their position. The award consist of a diploma and a travel grant of ten thousand (10000) SEK, to be used for competence development. The nomination can be done by other T/A staff or by people using their services. The award will be given in connection with the gathering of the whole faculty, e.g., at a faculty celebration.

Award for the best Ph.D. course

Given when the faculty board finds it suitable, to one or several people who innovatively and visionary contributed to improve the doctoral education in a way that strengthens the attraction of the departments and the faculty for graduate studies. The award consist of a diploma and a travel grant of ten thousand (10000) SEK, to be used for competence development. The nomination can be done by the prefect, the department coordinator for graduate studies, the faculty director of graduate studies, or the  PhD-Student Council. The award will be given in connection with the gathering of the whole faculty, e.g., at a faculty celebration.

Award for external collaboration

Given when the faculty board finds it suitable, to the person or research group that through innovativeness and special contributions within the faculty areas of education, research, or environmental monitoring and assessment, created an active dialogue and collaboration with  the society and stakeholders. The award consist of a diploma and a travel grant of ten thousand (10000) SEK for one person or twenty-five thousand (25 000) SEK to a research group, to be used for experience exchange of  comparable activities. The nomination can be done by the prefect or the faculty management. The award will be given in connection with the gathering of the whole faculty, e.g., at a faculty celebration.
