VH's faculty board meeting went perfectly and according to schedule

With a confident hand, Kristina Jungnelius guided the committee's participants dressed in Santa hats through the program. There were many and important points to address during the last faculty board of the year.

Economy

Inger Alderborn informed that next year's budget looks positive. There are some opportunities for the faculty and departments to use balanced capital for targeted investments in strategically important areas. For initiatives where the faculty contributes financially, funding is divided equally between the faculty and the departments concerned.

 

New docents

It was a proud and happy Rauni Niskanen, dean who congratulated four new docents. Magdalena Presto Åkerfeldt, Annika Bergström, Maja Malmberg and Gunnar Andersson are the new docents who will give the faculty new wings and possibilities for the faculty to have more possible main supervisors.

- This is an important step in our effort to increase the faculty's capacity to conduct research. Congratulations to you all.

 

Strategy 2021-2025

The faculty's strategy was discussed and can be summarized with seven key words, namely sustainability, digitalisation, One Health, competence, collaboration, communication and One SLU. Now it's time for action and produce an activityplan for 2021. The Board discussed a number of targeted activities in all three focus areas in the new SLU strategy to be decided on the next meeting in February.

With a new electronic tool we can follow up on all activities that we decide on. Another important part of our strategy work is a competenceplan for the entire faculty. We have received data from each department and at the end of January, the Faculty Board will come up with a draft for the next five years.

 

Workshop

After lunch, the board was divided into breakoutgroups to tackle a couple of different stories about gender equality and equal conditions to identifying problem situations and providing concrete solutions.

Examples of cases; Stefan, who is new in a group, is preparing for a meeting. In the meeting he does not recognise the discussion that comes up and is reprimanded by his boss who thinks they must move on and thinks that Stefan should have been familiar with the discussion. No one thought of the fact that Stefan was not at the lunch where some important questions was raised.

It was a very interesting and constructive moment where the energy was at its peak and with good discussions. Gender equality and equal conditions will be targeted in the upcoming strategy period and are included as an important part in the upcoming activityplan.

 

Merry Christmas

Soon it's Christmas. A different Christmas without the opportunity to meet our loved ones. It is important to take a few days off for recovery. - It is so easy to just keep working as usual, when you are sitting at home. Do not do that! Take time off! I know some of you need to be at work to keep the business going. I urge you to take some days off, a few days in the near future. It is very important to take a break, says dean Rauni Niskanen.
