Sara González Orenga

Sara González Orenga
My research focuses on plant stress responses, particularly abiotic stress factors like drought and salinity at the physiological, biochemical, and metabolomic levels. Additionally, I’ve worked on evaluating the effectiveness of organic soil fertilizers and biostimulants. Currently, I am studying browsing-tolerant trees, identifying genetic markers and biomarkers linked to tolerance, with the goal of advancing sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation.

Background

I am a forest engineer, and I finalized my Ph.D. in May 2021 at the Universitat Politècnica de València (Spain), focusing on endemic, rare, and threatened species. During my Ph.D., I also collaborated on studies examining abiotic stress on both wild species (Larix decidua, Abies alba, Limonium spp., Sarcocornia spp.,etc) and crops (Solanum spp.). My research aims to identify the most tolerant varieties to conditions associated with climate change or other stresses, as well as contribute to recovery and conservation plans for threatened ecosystems. Additionally, during my postdoc at Universidade de Vigo (Spain) I worked on understanding the behavior of invasive species (Carpobrotus spp.) under abiotic stress to enhance strategies for ecological conservation and restoration.
