PhD thesis defense

• The chairman at the disputation must qualified as Docent or Professor and be employed at the same department as the defendant.
• Supervisors of the defendent may not act as the chairman.
• The opponent must not be employed by the Faculty or Forest Sciences and must be qualified as Docent, or hold a comparable foreign qualification.
• The evaluation committee comprises at least three members, all must hold a PhD, and at least two must be qualified as Docents, or hold comparable foreign qualifications.
• One member of the evaluation committee may be affiliated to the Faculty of Forest Sciences, but not the same department as the defendant.    
• A substitute committee member, available on short notice, should be appointed.

Licentiate thesis defense

•   The chairman at the disputation must qualified as Docent or Professor and be employed at the same department as the defendant.
• Supervisors of the defendent may not act as the chairman.
• The evaluation committee comprises three members, all must hold a PhD, and at least two must be qualified as Docents, or hold comparable foreign qualifications.
• Two members of the evaluation committee may be affiliated to the Faculty of Forest Sciences, but not the same department as the defendant.   
• A substitute committee member, available on short notice, should be appointed.

Conflicts of interests between supervisor/defendent and opponent/evaluation committee should be avoided. Coauthorships within the last five years is considered due cause for exclusion. Please note that a "Declaration- conflict of interest" form must be appended the application for defence.
