On the occasion of the World Water Day, the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the FAO Liaison Office in Brussels are hosting an online high-level event to exchange knowledge around sustainable water and sanitation management.

World Water Day takes place every year on 22 March to raise awareness on the billions of people currently living without access to safe water and sanitation. Ahead of the UN Water Conference in New York (22-24 March), this event will touch upon the challenges and obstacles as well as opportunities and innovative ways to support the implementation and acceleration of progress in water and sanitation management for sustainable food systems.

The Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU has put the focus on water management as an element profoundly affecting our economies, societies and environment. Good water management is key for the achievement of the SDGs, including those related to hunger and food production.

Jennie Barron, Professor in Agricultural Water Management at the Department of Soil and Environment, will give a presentation.
