Magnus Åbrink

Magnus Åbrink
Associate professor (Docent), Senior Lecturer (Immunology): My current research focus on i) immunity to parasitic worm infections and the immunomodulation inflicted by secreted molecules from horse and dog roundworms, and ii) comparative studies of serglycin-dependent mechanisms in cancer development in dogs and humans

Presentation

Besides the joy of science and teaching, I enjoy fishing and hiking in the summer and Telemark-skiing in the winter. I obtained my bachelor degree in molecular biology 1989 and a PhD in molecular immunology 1997, both at Uppsala University. After this I did a two year post doc at IGBMC in Strasbourg/Illkirch, Frankrike, learning more about general transcription and involved factors and transgenic techniques. After returning to Sweden I was appointed head of the Uppsala University transgenic facility (UUTF) for 1,5 year, and I started to build on my own research career.  Since 2002 I have focused my research on mast cells and the serglycin-dependent mast cell specific proteases during parasitic infection and on the role of serglycin-dependent mechanisms in cancer.

Teaching

I teach at different levels at SLU and UU.

Supervision

I have been the main supervisor for three PhD-students and two Post Docs, as well as co-supervisor for eight PhD students. In addition I have supervised >50 student thesis at the master and the bachelor level, both at SLU and UU. (see for eaxample Epsilon Archive for Student Projects (slu.se), search with "abrink")
