Meeting with VHs faculty board

Published: 27 October 2020

The meeting with VHs faculty board took once again place in the spirit of ZOOM with participants behind cameras and with headsets, at a proper distance from each other. Only a few participants were at their regular workplaces and could experience the empty corridors and offices as Uppsala is now undergoing severe restrictions regarding the Corona situation.

It was a long and rewarding day for the participants. Marnie Hancke from NJ faculty gave a presentation on processes for higher recruitments. The board had a workshop on priorities for 2021 from the upcoming VH strategy and Sara Österman presented “SLU Ekologisk produktion och konsumtion” (EPOK) for the board.

Tillsammans

Anders Bjurstam, project manager for Tillsammans, reported on the priorities targeted for the autumn and updated the board with status from the ongoing areas.

Maria Engedahl, universityhospitaldirector for UDS and Nils Fall, head of KV, presented important points of interest in the project. Maria said that improvement is underway within UDS, which is an important step to improve the finances at UDS. This work includes the entire organization from the hospital management, clinics and to departments. At the same time, the new medical journal system will be implemented.

Nils Fall highlighted the importance of the joint management and working groups that are now established and are working to review important and shared areas between KV and UDS. According to Nils, scientific policy groups are important. They will make sure UDS will be based on scientific and proven experience and research results.

Economy

Decisions were made on the principles for VH's distribution of grants. The faculty has been given an increased assignment in undergraduate education with an associated increase in funding and also an increased funding in the research area, which together will be a positive strengthening financially. The distribution of grants also includes a number of already decided strategic investments, mainly for younger researchers, which will be financed by the faculty. There is also a possibility that there can be more strategic investments for next year.

SCAW

A follow-up of SCAW shows that the business needs a changed assignment that entails a clear focus on agricultural animals. At the same time, SLU has received a reduced state grant, which means the organization and competencies need to be reviewed in order to fulfill the new assignment and live up to the expectations on SCAW.

  - "I have therefore made the decision to create a new SCAW." says Rauni Niskanen, dean of the VH faculty.

SCAW in its current form will shut down and at the same time the work will begin on shaping a new SCAW that needs to be adapted to the financial conditions and with the right competence to meet the expectations. SCAW will continue to be its own profit, directly under the dean.

Collaboration

Today's meeting ended with Henrik Rönnberg informing that talks are underway with several actors about collaboration agreements. There is a strong political will to this, which will soon resulted in more declarations.
