Marcus Michelangeli
I am a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research Fellow in the Aquatic Ecology research group at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Umeå, Sweden. My research integrates theory and techniques from behavioural ecology, movement ecology and ecotoxicology to investigate how human-induced environmental changes effect the emergence and function of wildlife behaviour and sociality.

Research

My research program 'AquaDrugs' at SLU harnesses cutting-edge experimental tools to identify whether and how emerging chemical pollutants in the environment induce behavioural changes in wildlife that lead to higher-order ecosystem impacts. For example, in the laboratory, I am using artificial intelligence systems to detail how chemical pollutants affect individual and collective behaviours in fish. In the field, I am using remote underwater animal monitoring systems (e.g. acoustic telemetry) and targeted exposure implants to track multiple fish species and determine how exposure to contaminant mixtures affect ecological interactions.
