Marcus Klaus
I am interested in the carbon and greenhouse gas cycling in the boreal landscape. I have worked a lot with lakes and streams, but have recently shifted my focus towards land-water interfaces and groundwater. My research addresses a range of challenges from mechanistic understanding of small-scale gas exchange processes up to statistical modelling and prediction of large-scale land use

Presentation

I am a physical geographer with broad interest in boreal forest ecosystems and specific expertise in the fields of limnology, biogeochemistry, hydrology and hydrodynamics.

Teaching

Current teaching involvement:

  • Environmental chemistry (Bachelor level)
  • Forest Ecosystem Ecology (Master level)
  • Forest history (Master level)
  • Ecological disturbances in forests under climate change (Bachelor level)
  • Examiner of Bachelor theses in Forest Sciences

Research

Major research projects:

  • Microbubbles – hidden gateways for greenhouse gas emissions from inland waters? (Swedish Research Council VR, 2023-2026)
  • The role of groundwater in the carbon cycle: long-term sink or overlooked legacy? (Swedish Geological Survey SGU, 2022-2024)
  • Reducing forestry related greenhouse gas emissions from stream ecosystems by smarter riparian buffer zones (Skogssällskapet, 2019-2022)
