Statistical methods for comparisons of features in works by Bach and other composers

Published: 20 May 2019

In music theory and related research is analysis of structures an important matter, and statistical methods prove useful. By a quantification of fugue themes (range, length, number of unique notes etc.), a comparison between Johann Sebastian Bach and other composers can be made.

Statistical methods that were employed include e.g. principal component analysis and various types of regression models (e.g. Poisson regression), methods that are often used also in typical applications from research fields within SLU.
