I am a PhD student at the Department of Molecular Sciences at SLU in Anna Schnürer's group, where we work with anaerobic microbiology in biogas processes. In my research I focus on high solid anaerobic digestion, a technology where organic waste is digested and converted to biogas at high total solids content. I will study the microbial community structures in high solid digestion processes and evaluate potential optimization strategies.
Cellulose-rich materials are important substrates in high solid digestion and a part of my project is to investigate how degradation of these materials is affected by high levels of ammonia. High solid digestion reactors often operate at relatively high ammonia concentrations and therefore more knowledge about ammonia sensitivity of cellulose degrading bacteria is important for optimizing degradation efficiency in these processes.
