My main research interest is watershed science, in particular the link between water quality and the terrestrial boreal forest ecosystem. Today most of my research concern developing tools to mitigate leaching of unwanted substances to rivers, lakes and the sea.
During the first years of my resech my focus was on stream biogeochemistry and the link between soils and water. Today I lead a research group on developing better soil moisture maps, using artificial intelligence. The overall aim of that project is to provide a better planning basis for forest management and thereby reduce the export of nutrients and methyl mercury to the waters of the Baltic Sea Region.
