Collaborations with Greek institutions continue and evolve

Published: 20 March 2025

In the end of February, the Greek Ambassador to Sweden visited SLU as a follow-up to of the visit of the EU delegation and candidate country embassies in Sweden last spring.

After a successful visit of the EU minister Jessika Roswall, with delegations of EU and candidate country embassies stationed in Sweden, in April 2024 at SLU, the Greek ambassador, Her Excellency Ekaterini Fountoulaki, expressed her keen interest to re-visit SLU and discuss possibilities for cooperation in the field of climate change adaptation and biobased economy.

Her Excellency, who was accompanied by Ms Pelagia Sousiopoulou (First Councellor for Economic and Commercial Affairs), met and discussed possible areas of collaboration with SLU researchers. Pro Vice-Chancellor for International Relations, Ylva Hillbur and Head of SLU Global, Sara Gräslund, presented SLU and current collaborations between SLU and Greek institutions.

Key priority areas of action identified by the Greek government include climate adaptation in the fields of agriculture, forestry and the urban environment, as well as the further development of sustainable bioeconomy solutions that will boost rural economies in Greece.

The delegation showed great interest for SLU’s research and innovation activities in the areas of their interest, and for the current collaboration between SLU and Greek institutions. Moreover, new areas of collaboration have been identified and will be pursued.
