SLU project granted funding from the Driving Urban Transition (DUT) program

NATURO is a research project driven by The Landscape Governance and Management theme group at the Department of Landscape Architecture, Governance and Management that has been granted funding from the Driving Urban Transition (DUT) program.

The aim of NATURO is to develop a strategic framework, including a process and methodology, for capacity building and empowerment of both local governments and civil society stakeholders to co-create nature-based solutions (NBS).

Specifically, the project will study how mosaic governance in combination with long-sighted and integrated planning and management of NBS can increase quality of life for marginalised groups by re-imagining and repurposing existing urban NBS in small-scale, local, co-development interventions – Micro Urban Living Labs. This will serve to strengthen both the social and ecological resilience of urban areas.

Naturo is by DUT categorized under the Circular Urban Economies Pathway (CUE) and Nature-based solutions (NBS). The total budget is 10,5 million SEK, of which 3,8 goes to SLU, over three years.

Facts:

SLU will coordinate the NATURO project, that will run over three years, in cooperation with Wageningen University and the Slovenian planning institute, as well as with Tyresö, Den Bosch and Velenje municipalities in Sweden, The Netherlands and Slovenia. Also, support in project coordination and communication is provided by Living Cities & Communities, a consultancy from Stockholm, as well as an ambition of developing and impacting high level policies at national and EU level, via the European Knowledge Network (EUKN).
