Mahmoud Suliman

Mahmoud Suliman
I am a doctoral candidate, studying how environmental factors and management practices shape long-term reliability of crop yields. In particular, my research focuses on understanding how hydro-climatic and soil conditions, along with crop diversification and irrigation, impact yield stability, risks, resilience, and ultimately, food security. My approach is data-driven, combining large datasets and utilizing data science, statistical modeling, and geospatial (GIS) analysis to uncover local to regional patterns of yield responses to adverse conditions, and assess the potential for adaptation through management practices.

Research Interests

  • The combined effects of water availability, soil compaction/texture on year-to-year yield variations
  • The potential role of rotational biodiversity and irrigation in mitigating risks of yield shortfalls and enhancing resilience under climate change
  • The interactions between variable, adverse, and extreme climatic conditions and yield stability, resilience, and risks across spatial and temporal scales
  • Use of advanced data analytics, remote sensing, and modeling to assess and predict the effects of climate change on crop productivity and local to global food security
