Presentation

I am currently a post-doc at the Department of Animal Science (Animal Breeding and Genetics section) at SLU with the main focus on the Swedish beef cattle genomic selection project. I have also been involved in Swedish Warmblood horses genomic project.

Research

My Ph.D. thesis was conducted on genome-wide association studies (GWAS) for coat color, mohair, and growth traits to detect possible regions/genes in the Iranian Markhoz goats which are the Angora goat type with the main production of fine and luster fiber called “Mohair”.

I was also involved in the dairy cattle lameness genomic project in upstate New York during the time I was at Cornell University.

My current project as a post-doc at SLU is genomic selection in Swedish beef cattle for different growth and carcass traits. We performed single-step at a Nordic level for two main breeds Charolais and Hereford and estimated accuracy and dispersion values using LR method.

I have also worked on Swedish Warmblood horses genomic projects. In this project, we conducted factor analysis for over 50 linearly scored traits to make them much easier to be interpreted and implemented for future genomic selection programs. The factors used for further GWAS study to unravel possible QTLs or genes related to the mentioned traits.

I am involved in other projects like GWAS for litter size in Markhoz goats and goat population study as well.

Cooperation

For my PhD, I was a visiting scholar at the Department of Animal Science at Cornell University. I conducted my thesis analyses and bioinformatics at the Odyssey DNA Lab.
