Welcome to our workshop on the 12th of March! We will gather SLU Aquaculture researchers once again.

This is a great opportunity to get together with other SLU aquaculture researchers, get an update on the ongoing projects, find new opportunities for cooperation and strengthen the field of aquaculture within SLU.

10.00–10.10 Welcome and introduction (Dirk-Jan de Koning, chairperson SLU Aquaculture)
10.10–11.20 Results from platform-financed projects:

  • Application of genotyping by sequencing in Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) (Christos Palaiokostas, Animal Breeding and Genetics)
  • Probing the biological activities of bioactive compounds using gnotobiotic Artemia as toolbox (Kartik Baruah, Animal Nutrition and Management)
  • LIVEFLY2fish -whole live black soldier fly in rainbow trout diets (Aleksandar Vidakovic, Animal Nutrition and Management)
  • Feasibility and potential for farming and conditioning of wild fish fed with by-catches in Sweden (Örjan Östman, Aquatic resources)

11.20–11.30 Short break
11.30–12.20 Lectures new professors:

  • The unappreciated role of natural biostimulants in organic wastes: the Renaissance in Plant Nutrition (Jean W.H. Yong, Biosystems and Technology)
  • Walk on the wild side - is studying natural fish populations relevant for aquaculture? (Anti Vasemägi, Aquatic resources)
