Agreements with software vendors
In our agreements with software vendors such as, for example, Adobe and Microsoft, we need to know how many are using the various programs so that we are licensed correctly. Even from an IT-security perspective, it is important that SLU has accurate information about which software is installed on the organisation's computer.
In order to handle this, a special inventory program must be installed on all SLU-owned computers (Mac and PC). The inventory program we use since 2023 is called Xensam, which replaced the program Snow used previously. The program inventories the software which is installed on the computer and stores this information in a database managed by the IT department.
This database is only accessible by a limited number of people who occupy roles of IT Director, Head of IT Support, License manager, and IT Security Officer.
The information provided to software vendors is only a summary of how many copies of a software installed on the computers. No individual user can be identified in this information provided to vendors.
