What does a fish veterinarian do and how do you become a soil- and groundwater expert, professional diver or PhD student? At the Baltic Sea Science Center's first career fair, more than 370 high school students learned more about careers and study paths connected to water and oceans.
During the day, students could meet with professionals in a range of fields, interspersed with lectures. Marine biologist, civil engineer, environmental analyst, archaeologist and skipper are some of the professions that were represented.
Elin Dahlgren, who coordinates SLU's collaboration with the Baltic Sea Science Center, gave perspectives on how it is to work as a Baltic Sea researcher.
“It felt exciting to meet so many curious young people. The fact that we managed to attract students from outside the Stockholm area to the fair was beyond expectations. We will probably do this again next year”, says Elin Dahlgren.
Several SLU alumni contributed to concretizing careers in water and sea. Students also shared their experiences and talked about SLU's educations linked to water and the sea.
The career fair was organised in collaboration between the Baltic Sea Science Center at Skansen, Stockholm University, Stockholm Water and Waste and SLU.
