Cookie party at the Institute of Marine Research

Published: 20 December 2023

On Monday (18th of December) it was time for the Institute of Marine Research's annual cookie party. This year's party was organized at the Sailing Club in Lysekil.

The idea of the annual cookie party (or cookie day) is that everyone who wants to can bake and contribute with something good and delicious while retired employees are invited. This year, two retired employees participated and showed pictures and talked about "h-lab" in the old days.

It's a day where employees with great commitment help out and bake many delicious cookies and cakes. These are then enjoyed together with retired employees, says Peter Utgenannt, head of division at the The Institute of Marine Research.

The cookie party allows for many good conversations where we get to hear stories about what it was like to work in the laboratory 20, 30 or 40 years ago. This year former employees showed pictures and they talked about how the work was done before the digital era, with computers as tools. We also got to hear anecdotes such as when King Carl Gustaf was visiting. And I can reveal that this particular anecdote generated a lot of laughter, says Kalle Påsse Sundvall, deputy head of division at the Institute of Marine Research.

During the popular cookie party, the staff also took the opportunity to celebrate four anniversaries that recently turned 60, 50, 50 and 30 years old.

Cookie day is a significant day because it unites us across generations and reminds us of the important work that has been done and is being done today. A tradition that future generations will hopefully pass on... because you can't say no to a good cake (?), Kalle concludes.
