SLU launches new web functionality for courses

Published: 01 December 2020

Today, we are launching our new search functions for courses, as well as new web pages for undergraduate, Master’s and doctoral courses. At the same time, we are making changes to the student web start page.

The Division of Learning, Media and Digitalisation, together with the Division of Communication and the Division of IT, have been working on a major update to improve functionality on the SLU course web. The new course web is based on Episerver, a more stable platform than the one used up till now, and one that better meets SLU’s digital needs and technical requirements.

The course search page has a new design and new functionality. It’ll be easier to use the free-text field to search for courses, and easier to filter results based on course type and subject. The presentation of search results has also been given a makeover.

The page for searching for courses at undergraduate and Master’s level are available on the student web and the main SLU website. There is a separate page for searching for doctoral courses.

Better integration with other IT systems

The course pages have had a substantial facelift. We have added a Canvas button to allow students to switch between the course page and their Canvas course rooms, and if there is an open course evaluation, this will activate a link to the course evaluation system, Evald. Course pages have also been set up to make it possible to display TimeEdit schedules. Another new button means students can apply for a course at universityadmissions.se just by clicking.

There is a separate area for a course description. This way, prospective students can get an idea of the course content, making it easier for them to decide whether they want to apply. An appealing and selling description can attract more students to apply for it as a freestanding course. The description is imported from Slukurs, meaning departments can add their own text.

The new course pages are also indexed to allow search engines such as Google to display them in search results.

Changes to the student web start page

We’re also adding a new area to the student web. We have removed the function “My courses” as if often showed the wrong information. Instead, students can see courses they are registered on in Ladok Student.

There is a new space for information to students, and a space for adding links to web pages frequently used by students.
