News from Head of Department

Published: 16 November 2019

Dear KV! Dark November is here, but we are heading for more cozy times!

For example, in two weeks' time it's time for our annual Christmas party (29/11 17:00 at the Norrlands Nation) that will be arranged together with UDS! I hope you have signed up (Sussie Petterson, sent out a notification on Monday). On the same day, the 29th at 15: 30-16: 00, me and the animal hospital director, Maria Engedahl will present the basics of the VH-UDS collaboration project in Audhumbla.

The budget work is finally phase and next week it should be ready for KV's part. A big eloge to Zelal and Elinora who work hard to put together the whole!

In 2020, SLU will review its routines around "secondary jobs", which affects many of us at KV, but I don't really know much about the process yet. I will initially do a review together with SLU's lawyers about what applies to KV's employee profile. Furthermore, I have prepared a draft to adjust KV's organizational model which in short means that the departments disappear and that the subject responsibles are given greater staff responsibility. You will see and comment on the proposal when it has been discussed in the KV steering group and with the subject responsibles. When there is a ready proposal, it will be negotiated according to current regulations.

The faculty has luckily decided that John Pringle, Camilla Björkman and Christer Bergsten will, after their respective retirement opportunities, have a position as Professor emeritus / emerita at the department.

Yesterday our awarded doctoral student Jean-Baptiste Ndahetuye nailed his dissertation "Mastitis in dairy cows in Rwanda: characterization, prevalence, aetiology, antimicrobial resistance, molecular epidemiology and effects on milk quality" and we now look forward to his dissertation, December 5th!

During week 47 I will be on site all days except Wednesday.

With this I wish you all a pleasant weekend!
Nils
