Lövsta slaughterhouse approved and ready

Published: 21 September 2016

Just in time for the start of semester, it was announced that Lövsta slaughterhouse is approved and ready for use after renovation.

In the wake of, among other things, criticism from veterinary students regarding the handling of animals at the slaughterhouse, the premises have been redesigned and will now work better.

On 17 August, SLU had the opportunity to review a final report from the City Planning Administration in Uppsala which states that the slaughterhouse is approved for use once again. Before the renovation, SLU had conducted behavioural observations on the animals. The coming year will involve a follow-up on this with new observations in the renovated premises so as to hopefully be able to highlight positive effects.
