A hybrid workshop/conference which aims to discuss the role and importance of LULUCF and EU Forest Policy in Managing the Climate.
With the support of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Umeå, this is a 3-day workshop/conference which aims to discuss the role and importance of LULUCF and EU forest policy in managing the climate.
In important ways, we are approaching a crossroads, where we will be forced to choose between biodiversity, bioeconomy and climate change mitigation related goals. If we are not on the right track, then how can the LULUCF strategy in particular, and EU forest policy more generally, be improved?
Assuming that the principal goal should be the maximization of climate change (CC) mitigation potential, which pathway is most likely to help get us there? How can forests and forest-based resources best be mobilized in the interests of the climate? And should CC mitigation potential in fact be the principal goal, and is it consistent with biodiversity and/or other considerations ?
