Abstract

To reduce impact of new precipitation and temperature normals in Swedish crop production, sufficient water accessibility as well as soil infiltration and landscape retention capacity need to be ensured. However, there is limited evidence from Swedish agricultural catchments on quantified water allocation parameters, other than discharge and evapotranspiration. This obstruct evaluation of synergetic impact by already existing-, as well as new adaptation and mitigation practices. In addition, Sweden has a unique data collection of high resolution, spatiotemporal data. However, data linked to hydrological pathways as well as important soil parameters is limited on the high spatial resolution and/or sub-daily temporal scale. This is important to evaluate effects of short term weather events, potentially hazardous for crop production.

This seminar is an initial presentation for further work to map water balance within agricultural catchment with best available data present to date. I will present more details on observed changes to water balance in Swedish agricultural catchments up to this point. Secondly, I will bring up some perspectives and processing of indata for further use in hydrological modelling with focus on Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT+). Lastly, I will also bring up preliminary results of modelled historical water balance for one Tidan catchment in Västra Götaland. Lastly I will add an outlook to coming activities.
