Aquaculture research in nutrition and breeding - half-time seminar by associate senior lecturers at VH faculty

seminars, workshops |

Aquaculture is the fastest growing food production sector globally and its contribution to the future seafood supply is expected to double within 30 years. Such rapid development and intensification put demands on the industry and academia to invest time and money, and join forces, to ensure a sustainable growth of aquaculture. SLU Aquaculture invites to a seminar on some of the core issues for aquaculture to handle.

SLU invest in research on sustainable aquaculture in different ways. One example being the establishment of two associate senior lecturers in 2018 at the VH Faculty; one in aquaculture feed and nutrition, and one in aquaculture breeding and genetics. Robust aquaculture species and high quality environmentally friendly feed is a must for a sustainable development of aquaculture with healthy animals and minimised environmental footprint.

During this half-time seminar, the associate senior lecturers Kartik Baruah from the Department of Animal Nutrition and Management and Christos Palaiokostas from the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics, will present their work so far within aquaculture at SLU, and also their plans for the coming years. Both of them have close contact with the aquaculture industry and develop tools and methods to improve aquaculture production. The titles of their presentations are: Towards sustainable fish health and stress management: use of nutraceuticals, and Cost-effective genotyping strategies for aquaculture selective breeding.

27th of January is the last day for register if you wish to have a light lunch.

Most welcome!
