In November 2023, the vice-chancellor made a decision on a new campus plan for Ultuna - a visionary document outlining the long-term direction for the physical environment. The plan describes how we should approach the development of the physical environment to make informed decisions and develop the campus area in harmony with the focus and goals of the institution.
The developed vision for Campus Ultuna applies to the period 2023-2040 and emphasises the significance of the area as a green environment for research, education, and innovation in the emerging urban district. It also serves as a space for meetings and recreation in an inviting environment, addressing and responding to contemporary challenges related to the interaction between humans and nature at the intersection of city and countryside.
The plan outlines where and how new environments on the campus can be developed by establishing a robust basic structure with clear main pathways that align with the surrounding urban development. The structure is based on keeping the campus together as a green knowledge environment for SLU and adjacent activities to create favourable conditions for:
- a well-balanced mix of buildings and green areas
- developed pathways and connections that link the campus area and guide visitors correctly
- additional student housing on campus
- support for an active campus life
- new spaces for collaboration between academia and industry.
SLU and Akademiska Hus have closely collaborated in the development of the campus plan. The work on the plan has been conducted through discussions, workshops, surveys, and meetings with staff, students, and other stakeholders.
