About the program

Last changed: 24 May 2024

The IT Infrastructure Upgrade Program aims to modernize SLU’s IT infrastructure. This is done through the coordination of several projects and pre-studies in a joint program.

Why is the IT Infrastructure Upgrade Program being implemented?

The IT Infrastructure Upgrade Program is being implemented to ensure that SLU can meet the opportunities and needs of digital transformation, as well as contribute to the transition to a more sustainable society and increased quality in operations according to SLU's strategy for the years 2021-2025. SLU's IT infrastructure is generally outdated and neglected, which hampers the work of teachers, researchers, and support services on a daily basis. Additionally, the need for IT security is increasing, partly due to new regulations for IT security developed by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB). By coordinating various projects and feasibility studies within a comprehensive program, SLU can ensure a sufficiently stable and secure platform for the focus area of "SLU in the digital society" and comply with MSB's new regulations for IT security.

What is the goal of the IT Infrastructure Upgrade Program?

The goal of the IT Infrastructure Upgrade Program is to develop infrastructure and system capacity, as well as ensure the necessary competence and expertise to meet the opportunities and needs of digital transformation.

How will the IT infrastructure program affect SLU?

During the implementation of projects related to the IT-infralyftprogrammet, temporary planned disruptions may be required for IT systems and services, which will limit the access to IT solutions. These will be communicated to the relevant parts of the organization well in advance of the events. In order for the projects to be successfully implemented, individuals from different parts of the organization will occasionally need to be involved to contribute with ideas and requirements, for example through interview sessions or participation in reference groups. After the completion of the program, SLU will have an improved IT infrastructure and system capacity, which will increase efficiency and security in the operations at SLU.

How is the IT Infrastructure Upgrade Program managed?

The following individuals are part of the steering group for the program and are kept informed continuously:

  • Maria Knutson Wedel, Headmaster
  • Martin Melkersson, University director
  • Samuel Grauman, Acting IT-director (Chairman and program owner)
  • Niklas Wiklund, Program leader

Continuous updates are also provided to the management group within the IT department.

The program is conducted in project form. Each project has its own steering group that reports to the program steering group.

As several of the program's projects are carried out in collaboration with the core operations and therefore affect employees in their daily work, it is important to involve representatives of the stakeholders affected by the program within the framework of each project.
