When we practice dialogue, we actively listen to each other - an approach that helps us better understand different perspectives. SLU Future Food strives to stimulate and facilitate dialogues on complex issues related to the green transition and a sustainable food system. Two upcoming physical events in line with this endeavour are organised in Alnarp and at Ultuna.

In these physical in-person meetings, we will create an atmosphere to engage and inspire the communities learning, researching and working for a better future on specific food, agriculture and energy issues.

The first event, organised in Alnarp, explores the complexities of 'green marketing' in food systems, focusing on the impact and effectiveness of sustainability claims: How are terms like "organic,” “local,” and “eco-friendly” communicated and understood differently? When can green marketing lead to positive change and when does it risk greenwashing?

The second event is organized in Uppsala and explores the possibilities of phasing out fossil fuels in agriculture. What alternatives exist for powering tractors and replacing synthetic fossil fertilizers? How might the costs of this transition be distributed across society?

These are wicked problems, where well-intentioned researchers and practitioners are sometimes working towards different solutions. In these events, we’ll give space to discuss these different uncertainties and tensions. And this isn’t our first time around. A previous example of facilitating dialogues on burning topics is the SLU Future Food collaboration with the dialogue forum TABLE, resulting in the podcast series Meat: the Four Futures and series of workshop on the Future of Meat.

We look forward to you joining the discussion!
