Below is a summary of the key decisions made at the faculty board meeting on 19 September.

Recruitments

The board decided on the recruitment of professors. All recruitments are subject to approval by the Vice-Chancellor.

Professors

A decision was made to recruit a professor of business economics with a focus on entrepreneurship and innovation at the Department of Economics. The current professor is expected to retire in 2025.

The board decided to initiate the recruitment of a professor of organic chemistry at the Department of Molecular Sciences. This position will replace the subject area of organic chemistry with a focus on biomolecular structure, where the current professor is expected to retire in 2025.

Lastly, the board decided to begin the recruitment process for a professor of landscape ecology at the Department of Ecology, where the current professor is likely to retire in either 2025 or 2026.

Senior Lecturer

The board decided to recruit a senior lecturer in economics with a focus on the agricultural sector's economy.

New Doctoral Subject

The board decided to establish applied economics as a new doctoral subject. The Department of Economics submitted a request to the Doctoral Education Committee last autumn to establish this new subject. The motivation for a third economics subject, in addition to business economics and economics, was a need to break free from the course requirements within the national doctoral education program. The doctoral subjects include agricultural economics, environmental economics, natural resource economics, forest economics and bioeconomics.

New Deputy Member for the Associate Professorship Committee

The faculty board decided to appoint Pernilla Tidåker from the Department of Energy and Technology as deputy member of the Docent Appointment Board from 1 October 2024 until no later than 31 March 2025. The current deputy members have resigned from their duties as they leave SLU.

Quality Report Approved

The meeting decided to approve the quality assurance report for doctoral education presented to the faculty board. In 2024, a full-scale evaluation of all six quality areas for SLU’s doctoral education will be carried out. The overall aim of NJ’s analysis is to discuss the conditions for high-quality doctoral education within the faculty and to identify improvements. After the faculty board, the report will be sent to the Council for PhD Education at SLU. The document will be used during the NJ faculty’s quality dialogue on 4 November.
