Congratulations to SLU Aqua's Monica Mion and Stefan Skoglund, who participated in this year's doctoral award ceremony earlier in October. The doctoral award ceremony is SLU's biggest annual celebration and this year diplomas, rings, laurel wreaths and hats were handed out to a total of 4 jubilee doctors, 6 honorary doctors and 46 new doctors at SLU's four faculties.
- The doctoral award ceremony is the university's biggest celebration of the highest degree one can receive. It is gratifying that the department contributes with PhDs to the faculty and the university every year. It is also a testament to the fact that we have a productive graduate program that many people contribute to - the supervisors, the director of studies, the course directors and teachers, the supervisory staff, the doctoral colleagues, the administrative support, and everyone who has their door open for a graduate student who wants to ask their questions. The overall environment is crucial for a successful doctoral education. Good luck with the continued career Monica and Stefan, says Noél Holmgren, Head of Department at SLU Aqua.
- Participating in SLU’s doctoral promotion ceremony was both an honor and an inspiration. This event celebrates years of hard work and dedication to research, and it was evident how much effort the university and organizers put into recognizing the achievements of SLU’s PhD students. I was particularly happy to share this moment with another fantastic Aqua PhD student, Stefan (we made it!). It’s truly rewarding to be part of a university that supports its PhD students and acknowledges the impact of research on society, says Monica.
- The ceremony felt very solemn, and the same with the dinner. My general thought about the festivities is how many people, both SLU employees and external people, have so much good to say about SLU as a university and the research and education that we stand for, as well as the significant role that SLU has in our communities both nationally and internationally. I felt proud to have completed my doctorate at SLU. The whole event was magnificent, and to all those who have defended their doctoral thesis but have not yet been to the doctoral award ceremon: just do it (!), says Stefan.
