Vaartoe sholarship to SLU master's student
Agnes Grönvall, a master's student at the Environmental Communication programme, has been awarded a scholarship by the Vaartoe - Centre for Sami Research at Umeå University, for her thesis on the sami trans-border reindeer herding.
Each year the Vaartoe Centre for Sami Research at Umeå University, awards scholarships to research on trans-border reindeer herding and sami-political authorship.
Agnes grönvall, student at the international master's programme in environmental communication, has been awarded the Vaartoes student scholarship for her master's thesis on Governing orders at odds in Sápmi – assessing governability in transborder reindeer herding with help of social impact assessment.
From the Vaartoe motivation:
Agnes Grönvall performed a large part of the thesis work during the Saarivuoma calf marking in Altevatn in Norway.
Her thesis is based on solid field work with interviews, participating observations and documented conversations with the members of the Sami village (sameby), who also were given the possibility to give feedback on her results before the thesis was finished.
Agnes Grönvall has with her thesis contributed to a greater understanding of the trans-border herding and its conditions. Through her thorough field work, a reflective approach and a well written thesis, she has in a commendable way shown that she fulfills the objectives.
The prize ceremony took place on March 8, in connection to the Culture on Campus concert at Umeå University.
