New phase of UEM collaboration in Mozambique

Published: 26 June 2018

We are glad that the collaboration within Quality Assurance at Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) in Maputo, Mozambique, has started with a successful launch of our sub-programme already in February where partners from UEM, SLU and Uppsala University (UU) met for the first time.

The UEM-Sweden collaboration is a bilateral programme financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). Sweden has collaborated with UEM since 1978, and now, a new phase of the Swedish support to UEM has started until December 2022.

The overall aim is to strengthen the capacity to generate scientific knowledge and increase research output and innovation for national and regional development in line with UEM vision and mission of transforming itself to a research-led university. The Quality Assurance sub-programme is therefore of key importance and aims at building capacity to ensure the quality of training and research.

SLU Global coordinates SLUs work in this programme where several central divisions and units are working together to maximize the outputs. Besides SLU Global, the Division of Educational Affairs has a major role, and also the Leadership Development Unit, Division of Planning and Grants Office. Together we look forward to a fruitful collaboration to support our colleagues at UEM!

Already in 2018 we have several milestones to achieve:

  • Trainings of leaders
  • Trainings of pedagogic staff and teachers
  • Reviewing quality assurance assessment guidelines
  • Writing guidelines for joint and double degrees
