Published: 12 June 2017

Dr. Liyan Yu was invited to make a presentation entitled with Social Capital and the Financing Performance of Farmer Cooperatives in Fujian province in China in Agricultural Economics Seminar on May 17th.

Dr. Liyan Yu is a lecturer for farmer cooperatives and rural finance in College of Economics, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU) (Fujian, China). The paper presented was cooperated with Prof. Dr. Jerker Nilsson, which investigated how social capital was related to the cooperatives’ financing performance. The findings indicated that cooperatives were granted bank credit more easily if they had been granted governmental “honors” and if the chairperson had government contacts (external social capital).

Agricultural Economics Seminar is organised by Agri-food Policy and Trade group in Department of Economics, SLU. We aims to identify and develop economic solutions for problems concerning agricultural production and food consumption that farms, firms, consumers and decision makers face.
