Autumn semester has started since a couple of weeks ago and it's nice to see all our students back at Ultuna campus. It's always a little exciting before we know how many of the new students that will come to registration on the VH:s programs.
Anne-Marie Dalin is Professor at the Department of Clinical Sciences and Vice Dean, responsible for education at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences.
This year we fill the places on veterinarian, veterinary nurse, equine - riding horse track and the ethology and welfare programs but not agronomy animal science, the revised bachelor program, sport and companion animals, and the Master program in Animal Science.
The start of the semester means this year more intensive work than usual at our departments. For example, in the animal science programs, the program syllabus have been revised resulting in many new courses now being launched. The veterinary nurse program takes in 60 students from this autumn (50% increase since 2014) and also in this program the courses have been revised.
Overall for education at SLU there are now three issues in focus, which also were discussed during the two days education meeting with workshops a few weeks ago. In June, the SLU Board decided a strategy for 2017 - 2020. The training will be accompanied by a "education direction document" and the faculty board of education will work on it. According to a proposal by the University Chancellor, universities should take more responsibility for the quality assurance audit. The model SLU will use has to be worked on during the autumn..
"Student Recruitment" is another important question for SLU because some of the sector's professional programs do not fill the places. Also on the programs, where at our faculty we have enough applicants, need a "broadening". At VH we need more male students to be interested in our programs. This year, as in previous years, we have more than 95% of female students
Late summer greetings,
