Welcome to Alnarp

SLU Urban Futures is organising a series of day-conferences, where researchers, students and anyone active in - or simply interested in - sustainable urban development, are invited. The series explores different ways of making our cities and communities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. The 11th Sustainable Development Goal will be used, both as a portal - for understanding the interconnected social, economic and environmental challenges society faces, and as a docking station - for connecting to the other 16 development areas, envisioning how we facilitate transformative change.
On the 5th and 6th of October, we team up with SLU Movium Think Tank in Alnarp.

Living Laboratories and Urban Health

Following the first conference at Ultuna Campus this summer, where we looked at transformative change through the lens of sustainable foodscapes, this conference at Alnarp Campus will share perspectives from international speakers from a variety of disciplines, reflecting on Living Laboratories as new formats for research, teaching and society interaction, what role the university campus can play, and how it relates to urban health.

Book launch and international keynote speakers

The first day will begin with the launch of the book “Woods go Urban: three decades of experiments with woodlands in Landscape Laboratories”. This book features contributions from the founders of the Landscape Lab at SLU Alnarp, as well as from the many colleagues who have worked here during the years since the installation of the Landscape Lab. The book launch sets the scene for our international keynote session. This session will explore themes relating to transdisciplinary and transformative science and how to work with a campus as a Living Lab, where novel ideas for sustainability transitions are explored in order to produce relevant knowledge for society. The afternoon session will start from another prominent Living Lab at SLU Alnarp - Alnarp’s Rehabilitation Garden - as a gateway to exploring how urban health emerges as an important vector for urban and regional development.

Guided bus tour

The following day, on 6 October, participants will be given the opportunity to join a guided bus tour on the topic of Landscape Laboratories and Urban Woodlands in the South of Sweden.
