Modeling for climate smart agriculture

seminars, workshops |

Agricultural production is challenged by ongoing climate change and increasing climate extremes. Climatic conditions have complex interactions with cropping systems and crop traits. Therefore, agricultural models are key to assess climate risk and design adaptation strategies robustly.

The Crop Production Ecology Seminar series is a free and online platform for scientific debate about agricultural production and sustainability between academics, stakeholders, and the general public.

In this seminar, we will hear about modeling for climate smart agriculture with recent insights in the following talk.

Improving Climate Change Impact and Adaptation Modelling to Design Climate Smart Agriculture

In this presentation, the improvements in climate change impact and adaptation modelling in the past decades will be reviewed, and then designing climate smart agriculture by multiple-objective optimization will be introduced. The major points include:

  • Better quantifying and reducing uncertainties from climate change scenarios, model parameters and structures.
  • Modelling the impacts of multiple global change factors simultaneously.
  • Improving climate change impact and adaptation modelling by integrating process-based modelling and machine/deep learning.
  • Designing climate resilient cultivars and climate smart cropping system by multiple-objective optimization.
