Scientific dialogue on climate change

Rob Hart, Lotta Rydhmer, Peter Högberg, Jennie Barron

Welcome to a scientific dialogue on climate change, 29 April. The target group is researchers and research support staff within any field at SLU, with an interest in research relating to climate change.

During this event, we will host a moderated conversation about how we can strengthen our climate change research for the future, with researchers Lotta Rydhmer, Peter Högberg, Jennie Barron and Rob Hart. Furthermore, there will be opportunities for all participants to interact, network and share reflections. Please join the conversation!

Background:

During 2021 and 2022, the IPCC will launch its sixth assessment report, presenting the current scientific knowledge in reports on the physical science basis, mitigationimpacts, adaptation and vulnerability. The reports will most likely get a lot of attention in Sweden and globally. The last IPCC assessment report came in 2014 and provided the scientific basis for the Paris Agreement.

SLU Global and SLU Future Food, SLU Future Forests, SLU Future One Health and SLU Urban Futures now take the launch of the IPCC reports as an opportunity to increase the scientific conversation about climate change across disciplines at SLU, with a series of internal scientific dialogues, as well as open seminars with both external and SLU participants.

The first scientific dialogue is April 29, via zoom at 9-10.30. The target group is researchers and research support staff within any field at SLU, with an interest in research relating to climate change.

Brief about the speakers:

Rob Hart - My research concerns the development of the global – spaceship – economy in the very long run, and the management of that development through policy instruments.

Lotta Rydhmer - I work with research and education on animal breeding and genetics, mainly breeding for a more sustainable production.

Peter Högberg - My research concerns the cycles of nitrogen and carbon through forests, especially interactions among trees, mycorrhizal fungi and soils.

Jennie BarronMy research concerns water management in agriculture. My particular interests include development and transformation of agro-ecosystems and landscapes, through water and land management, policy engagement and capacity building, with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.
